My favorite fruit is papaya, unfortunately it is hard to find good ones in the valley of the sun.
I've been trying to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet more often as a way to grow in Mercy. However, I remember praying it when an uncle of mine died unexpectedly. What you said about not knowing the fruits of your prayer until after we die hit home with me.
I felt extra graces from the prayers you and the other guys in our men's group offered for me when I was by myself with the kids while Diana was in that homeschooling conference. That's one of the recent ones I can remember.
The best burn I ever heard in middle school: we were giving each other nicknames and each of us was a type of fruit. This other kid really wanted one. He was desperate and kept listing fruits. Then He said “how about like a weird fruit nobody likes?” My other friend said “you already are a weird fruit that nobody likes!” We died laughing. Then the kids ran around like “no no no no! I meant like a papaya or a mango or something!”
Ya I Love Divine Mercy message. It was a huge impact for me in 2016 (the year of divine mercy) I read 33 days to merciful love and went to world youth day in Poland. I am glad you liked it. It is my go to prayer while laying in bed trying to go to sleep. I’ve heard sleep is like a “mini death” every day. So the Chaplet is very fitting then.
Yes. God wants to give people Himself. But unless we are emptied out (at least partially) there is no room and we don't want it. If we have "nothing to offer" to God, then what we have to offer is "nothing" which He will fill with Himself.
I like the Divine Mercy Chaplet as a prayer against despair because the closing prayer is "Eternal God, in Whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself." After I was sent out on short term disability leave for a month with a diagnosis of depression and starting medication (long story a few years ago) every day I would go out in the unimproved park near my house (all trees and a few paths for dog walkers) and pray a rosary in a perpetual Our Lady Undoer of Knots novena https://www.theholyrosary.org/maryundoerknots and generally a Divine Mercy chaplet and maybe a holy souls chaplet to round out the walk. This novena was answered but not in the way I was asking for, because we are often asking for something that is too small.
1. My favorite fruit is pie. I am ambivalent about fruits that are not yet in pies. Oh! Medjool dates are a fruit, so I will choose them.
2. When someone asks for prayer, I pray a Hail Mary immediately. There are a few people whom I remember to God at daily Mass, together with their intentions (whatever those are).
3. Probably? I am drawing a blank right now, which I expect is for my own good. Oh, one of my kids could not find a notebook that he had written something important in, and I asked St. Anthony to pray for us, and then I immediately found it for him (this is the normal life of a Catholic as far as I am concerned.)
Thank you Bridget for your inspiring words. I love how you talked about “nothing” and filling.
Oh yeah! The divine mercy prayer does talk about despair. All the more reason to pray it in times of mental anguish.
I totally agree about pies. Give me that over a rich cake or fudge any day. Too much taste. My wife and I are complete opposites in this.
Yep the Saint Anthony is a classic. “TONY, TONY, LOOK AROUND..SOMETHING’S LOST AND CAN’T BE FOUND” I found an important screw for my friends wheelchair I dropped yesterday with this prayer.
